Leading on a Higher Level

Few things are more important to human activity than leadership. However, in HSL, we do not merely aspire to be leaders. We believe in leading at a higher level, where leadership is about serving, and not self-serving. We perceive leadership as for the greater good of mankind, and not merely a means to accomplishing goals. Our leaders may focus on results, but they also place great emphasis on people development, giving high priority to employee engagement and job satisfaction. As leadership guru, Ken Blanchard aptly puts it; “Leading at a higher level is the process of achieving results while acting with respect, care and fairness for the well-being of all involved.”

Our Pledge for the right kind of Leadership:

Lim Choo Leng

Chairman

Lim Choo Leng is one of the founding directors of HSL. Mr Lim recently stepped down as the Managing Director and assumed the advisory role of Chairman. He has more than 50 years of experience in the construction industry, with deep expertise especially in the construction and maintenance of marine structures. A recognized name in the marine construction sector, Mr Lim was the Project Manager for construction of the marine facilities at Pulau Busing, Singapore which received the Construction Excellence Award for Excellence in Construction Management in 1992. In 2004, Mr Lim was seconded to Shell Global where he oversaw the construction of chemical jetties in the Donglian Harbor Chemical Jetty Project, Daya Bay, China.

Charles Quek

Chief Executive Officer

Charles Quek, Chief Executive Officer, has 18 years of experience in the industry. Prior to his appointment as the CEO on 17 March 2014, he was in charge of overseeing business development for the company. A brilliant business strategist, Charles was responsible for maintaining solid client relationships, building strong internal capabilities and pursuing new business opportunities. In addition to his keen foresight, his wide-reaching connections in the market made for another valuable asset. As CEO, Charles is responsible for steering the tone and direction of HSL’s business, as well as presiding over its day-to-day operations. Charles is currently also the President for the Association of Process Industry (ASPRI). In addition to his commitments in the industry, Charles actively involves himself in the community and was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) in Year 2011.

Teng Soo Hai

Executive Director

Teng Soo Hai, founding director, has vast experience in foundation, marine works, and mechanical piping work. A 40-year veteran of the construction industry, Mr Teng is responsible for ensuring that HSL provides services that constantly exceed clients’ expectations. He credits his success to unwavering values which include hard work, integrity, commitment and passion.

Wong Chin Sing

Executive Director

Wong Chin Sing, founding director, is a project director with more than 35 years of experience in the construction industry, both locally and internationally. A civil engineer by trade, Mr Wong also holds a law degree, which allows him to blend his law knowledge and practical on-site expertise together into a singular strategic approach, especially in the area of managing mega projects and contract law.
